The Practical Data Community is Here
And We Want You to Write for Us
I’m excited to announce the launch of the Practical Data Community, a space for real-world, no-fluff data content.
We’re looking for practitioners in the trenches - data engineers, analytics engineers, architects, and leaders. If you’re building systems, solving hard problems, and navigating the messy realities of the data landscape, pitch an idea. Bring practical insights, war stories, and architectural patterns the community needs to hear.
We want pieces like:
Postmortems: what broke, why, and what you changed
Architecture trade-offs: “we chose X over Y because…”
Data modeling in practice (and where it fails)
Migration / cost / reliability lessons
Org/process realities for data teams
The real-world intersection of data and AI.
Not interested in: vendor pitches, buzzword bingo, or AI slop.
Submission guidelines + how to contribute
Let’s build a practitioner-led library of patterns, postmortems, and trade-offs.

Loved this Joe! I have some stories to share, will send them along!
Love this, Joe! Someday I intend to have something to contribute, but for now I will happily subscribe and learn from the community of experts you're assembling.
